This is a very acidic New Zealand Merlot. Based on the fact that Villa Maria make decent Sauvignon Blanc, I was hoping that this would be a decent wine, too. You get dark fruit on the nose, and the initial taste gives you plum and oak. Unfortunately it is not well balanced and all flavours are overshadowed by far too much acidity.
